Hebe 'Red Edge'

Review Notes: Height: 60cm Spread: 60cm
NOTES: Fairly hardy evergreen small shrub. Rounded bushy growth. Leaves small, oval, grey-green edged with red. Flowers small, in large clusters, pale lilac, in June and July.
SEASON: Mid summer
HARDINESS: Fairly hardy
TASK FOR APRIL: Lightly trim to shape with shears; cut back older plants almost to ground level.
TASK FOR MAY: Take soft cuttings from new shoots, and root under glass

Preferred common name: Hebe 'Red Edge'

Hebe are evergreen shrubs with paired, simple leaves and racemes or spikes of small, 4-lobed, tubular to salver-shaped flowers in summer and autumn.

'Red Edge' is a small evergreen shrub with oblong, blue-grey leaves which are margined with red, especially in winter. Flowers pale mauve fading to white, in short spikes.

Pests Can get aphids and tortrix moth.
Diseases A leaf spot and a downy mildew may be a problem.

Soil Alkaline or Neutral. Moist but well-drained or well-drained. Chalk, Clay, Loam or Sand.

Aspect All aspects. Exposed or Sheltered.
Flowers: Pale Purple and White in Summer.

Foliage: Grey/Silver, Blue/Glaucous and Red.
Evergreen/Deciduous: Evergreen.

Suggested Plant Uses: Coastal, Garden Edging, Ground Cover or Low Maintenance
